LiveTwit is a great free theme that enables you to pull information together from Twitter in real time.
These types of sites are particularly during a major event or when real time information and news is essential.
Often during times of tragedy, such as a natural disaster, twitter users are usually first to break the news. Floodfeed which tracks rain and flooding in India is a great example of this.
